WHY FUERTEJULIA?
I love the fact that I was born on an island in the middle of the Atlantic that is only 100 km from Africa. On the other hand, naming the island where I was born was and is also a way to remind me of where I come from and to keep me humble.
BIOGRAPHY
At the age of 8 she already had her first diving star thanks to her diver parents. By then, Julia had already practiced many other sports such as karate, horse riding and sailing.
Always rather hyperactive, sport was the only way to calm this energetic whirlwind and those around her knew it.
It was in 2011 when Julia began to stand out in athletics running the 100m hurdles, among others. She won 4 gold medals in a single Canarian championship and was the most successful athlete of that year.
As in every story, something would happen that would change the course of his structured and promising life as an athlete.
Knee injury and operation.
As you can see, Julia never returned to the track. Kitesurfing came into her life a bit by chance, Julia exchanged kitesurfing lessons for photos after having worked at the annual World Championships in Fuerteventura.
After this summer we could only find her on the beach taking her school material to go to the beach by hitchhiking or by bus, 60km every day.
At first Julia borrowed material from all her kiting friends until little by little, working on all kinds of jobs, and thanks to photography prizes she managed to buy her first board. A North Soleil from 2011. After a year of kiteboarding, in 2012 and encouraged by her mates, she decided to go to the Spanish Kite Championships, finishing 3rd in both freestyle and waves.
Shortly after she was invited to the international competition “Tarifa Masters of Kite” in Tarifa where she got another 3rd position sharing the podium with Gisela Pulido (10 times world champion).
In 2013 Julia was proclaimed European Junior Sub-Champion and in 2014 she would get 9th position in the World Championships in Fuerteventura and Tarifa.
2015 was what we can call a bad year, a ligament injury in her shoulder landed her in the operating theatre.
2016 was just a warm-up for Julia’s return from injury. Even so, among other things, she managed to become Spanish Wakeboard Champion, 6th in the European Wakeboard Championships and Philippine Freestyle Champion. The thing was not only in competition results but it was also present in media such as RedBull, FHM, MARCA and more than 20 local newspapers and kite magazines.
